As an in-home family photographer in CT, capturing this multi-generational photoshoot was such an honor. An in-home photo experience is a wonderful option for large families, or for families that wish to include extended members in their photos. Below, I will detail how you can prepare for your in-home photoshoot. I’ve included information on how to prepare your home, and attire options for you and the entire family. Keep reading for more details on preparing your family for a professional photoshoot.

Why Choose an In-home Family Photographer in CT
If you want to schedule a photoshoot with your extended family, you might already guess that it can be difficult to coordinate a session that takes place in a photography studio. You will be in charge of making sure everyone arrives at the studio, and on time. Short of everyone meeting at the same location and scheduling a car service, this can seem almost impossible. Situations such as these typically end with phone calls and back-and-forth communication trying to find the family members who haven’t yet arrived, are stuck in traffic, or worse yet - have gotten lost on their way. It can be an unnecessary headache during an experience that is supposed to be enjoyable and bring everyone together for a day focused on family and connection.
Skip the trouble of trying to transport everyone to a studio and instead focus on a more personalized photography experience. One taking place in your home, or the home of a family member. Everyone will be at ease and relaxed. Making the photoshoot feel as festive and exciting as one of your cherished family gatherings.

How to Prepare Your Home for a Photoshoot
The part that most families stress over the most when working with an in-home family photographer in CT is readying their home. It is a myth that each & every corner of your home must be cleaned in the greatest detail. You do not have to hire a professional cleaner or purchase new furnishings for your home to make it appear ‘photo-worthy’. In fact, the biggest piece of advice I can give you to prepare your home for a photoshoot is to keep your focus on tidying two central locations of your home.
For the beautiful family featured in the photos below, we worked on photography together in their living room and the bedroom. This provided the photo shoot with an overall feeling of coziness while bringing the family together in a way that felt natural to them. One tip I usually provide my families with before arriving at their homes is this; open all of the blinds in the space that we will be working in. This will allow an abundance of natural light to flow into the space. Thus providing your photos with a beautiful light and airy quality that feels editorial.

What to Wear
Coordinating outfits for multiple members of your family may seem like a daunting and overwhelming task. But it certainly doesn’t have to be. Everyone does not have to be in matching outfits. Actually, you might want to avoid matching outfits altogether. The goal is to find complementary outfits from complementary colors. The lovely family in the photos below selected a simple but elegant color palette consisting of black, white, and natural tones. It can really be as easy as that! This particular color combination is one of my personal favorites. But, if you desire something a bit more varied for your family you can take a look at this Pinterest board I’ve put together.
