NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY – THE PROCESS. BABY PHOTOGRAPHY – how to book the newborn session

Updated: Sep 28, 2024

The best time to do a newborn session is within the first  7-20 days of birth.

Babies are typically sleepier in their first few weeks, which makes them calm and perfectly suited for a cozy, peaceful newborn session.

**Step 1: Find Your Photographer**

While you’re still pregnant—ideally 1-6 months before your due date—start looking for a photographer whose style truly speaks to you. You may choose between posed newborn photography or a more relaxed lifestyle approach. If you’re here, it means you’re drawn to my organic, posed photography style—and I’m so happy you are! 😊

**Step 2: Reach Out Early**

Don’t wait until after your baby is born to contact your photographer. Most photographers, including myself, are typically booked 1-2 months in advance. It’s best to secure your spot while you’re still expecting.

**Step 3: Make Sure You Love the Style**

Before booking, make sure you’re completely in love with the photographer’s style. Check out their Instagram, Facebook, and website galleries—these images are a true reflection of what you’ll receive. Photographers, including myself, have their own unique style that we won’t change for individual sessions. So if you love the images you see, you’ll love what we create together.

**Step 4: Book in Advance**

I know I mentioned this before, but it’s so important! I hate having to turn away parents because I’m fully booked 2-3 weeks out. Unfortunately, this often happens when parents wait until after their baby arrives. Remember, there’s also paperwork that needs to be completed before the session, so booking early ensures a smooth experience.

**Step 5: Secure Your Spot**

Once you’ve made the decision to book, pay the deposit, and I’ll reserve a tentative date based on your due date. Then, when your little one arrives, contact me as soon as possible, and we’ll schedule your newborn session within the first two weeks.

**Step 6: Prepare with Confidence**

After booking, you’ll receive a comprehensive Prep Guide from me, outlining everything you need to know for your newborn session. It covers all the details—from breastfeeding tips to how to interact with your baby before the session. This guide will help you feel ready and at ease, ensuring we capture the most beautiful moments together.

**Step 7: Relax and Enjoy**

Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! You’re in good hands. Soon enough, you’ll have stunning images that will preserve these fleeting moments with your precious baby for a lifetime.
